December 2011

Hi Visitor, here is my latest eNewsletter

It's almost Christmas so I am not going to take up your time with a lengthy missive. I just wanted to touch base with you before we move into a new and wonderful year. So two quick snippets this month.

Firstly a response to a question received after my last newsletter when I suggested we don't feed our men too much flax oil while there is still some doubt as to whether it's a good idea.

There seems to be different opinions about the statement that flax seed oil causes prostate cancer.  Do you have any references please?

Firstly, they're not saying it causes prostate cancer but rather may cause prostate cancer cells to proliferate. Here is reference to two of the studies - remember that the fatty acid in flaxseed oil is alpha linolenic acid:

De Stefani E et al Alpha-linolenic acid and risk of prostate cancer: a case control study in Uruguay.

Harvei S et al. Prediagnostic Levels of Fatty Acids in Serum Phospholipids: omega-3 and omega-6 Fatty Acids and the Risk of Prostate Cancer.

Granted there are studies that come to no such conclusion, however, my feeling is: our men are precious, and if there is any doubt whatsoever then rather we leave off heavy dosing of flax oil. A little in a salad dressing or from time to time can do no harm though - as long as it's fresh. So my apologies if I caused any of you any reason for concern. Remember when I talk about high dose omega-3 I am always referring to omega-3 from fish oil. Speaking of which....

Festive Season Special on Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplements

I am running a festive season special from now until the end of January. No, my stock is not about to expire, in fact the expiry dates range from Nov 2013 to Apr 2014. Its just a chance I am offering you to stock up before the unavoidable price increase early in 2012. As you will know the exchange rate has been most unkind to us the past few months and apparently is set to be even less favourable in 2012. In addition to this my suppliers in Canada have experienced rising production costs, all pointing to at least a 10% increase on the omega-3 supplements that I import. I shall try to absorb some of the extra costs myself and hope for a lesser increase however all hinges on what happens with the exchange rate in the months ahead. So hold thumbs but in the meantime do take the opportunity to stock up before end January on these specials:

Christmas Greetings

Finally all that is left for me is to wish you and yours a wonderful festive season. May it bring you the joy and happiness you deserve as you remember the true meaning of Christmas and that it's not about slogging in the kitchen!

I love this quote below and especially while we're thinking up new year resolutions, enthusiasm could make all the difference:

“Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your mind. Put your whole soul to it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803-1882, Essayist, Philosopher and Poet
